Film

Mark began writing screenplays in 2013 after leaving full time work in the games industry. In 2015 he founded Dark Films with director Carl Timms, and the pair went on to make Off Grid, a short, psychological thriller. The film starred James Cosmo and Alison Steadman, top tier British talent attracted to the project on the strength of Mark's award winning script.

Mark left Dark Matter Films in 2021, and worked on a number of spec projects with Jopia Productions, culminating in filming The Minefield, a proof of concept short for a WWII espionage feature.

Mark has numerous screenplays available for option or purchase, along with accompanying documentation such as pitch decks and synopses, some examples of which are showcased below. In addition to being a seasoned writer, Mark has on-set management and production experience, so he understands the work and challenges that go into making a film.

Off Grid

Off Grid came from a short that Mark wrote which he intended to direct and film himself, but then he met Carl Timms at a networking event and they formed Dark Matter Films. Carl's extensive notes helped shape the script into a draft with significantly more character development and personal drama. They shot and produced the movie in 2018, financing it with a mixture of private investment and crowdfunding, and after a long and successful festival run, it came to YouTube in 2024.

Off Grid Synopsis

Salvage

Salvage is an idea Mark had for a web series inspired by the Netflix show, Love, Death & Robots, and Samurai Jack. It follows the exploits of a combat android on a future version of Earth where all organic life has been eradicated by a nuclear holocaust. Sentient life consists of robots and drones that prey upon one another for parts and upgrades in a constant struggle for survival. It will consist of short, linked stories created in Unreal Engine and published to a YouTube channel. The narrative is almost entirely dialogue free, relying purely on visual storytelling.

Theatre of War

Theatre of War is a spec script written by Mark in 2015, and revised through several drafts since. The pitch of a crew of a futuristic tank trapped in their disabled vehicle, with their memories mysteriously wiped, attracted some positive attention at the Birmingham Film Marketplace, but no sale ensued, and the script is still available for anyone interested in making a low-budget limited cast and locations sci-fi film.
